Nate was supposed to be at that gallery opening for twenty minutes. Priya wasn't supposed to be there at all — she'd wandered in off the street thinking it was a cafe. They spent three hours arguing about a sculpture neither of them liked and left with each other's phone numbers.

She was finishing her residency at Royal Hobart. He was building houses in the Huon Valley and reading too many architecture books. Their first proper date was a ferry ride to MONA, which felt grandiose for two people who'd known each other a week. It turned out to be exactly right.

Seven years of slow mornings, loud dinners with too many cousins, a dog called Brutus (his idea), and a shared conviction that concrete is beautiful brought them back to the same building where it started.

He asked on the ferry. She said obviously.

Those standing
with us

With Priya

Ananya Nair, her sister and the person who knows where everything is. Mei-Lin Chen, who has been her anchor since medical school. Tessa Hartigan, who drove twelve hours for the engagement party. Ruby Okonkwo, whose calm steadies every room. And Sophie Calloway, Nate's sister, who became hers too.

With Nate

Tom Calloway, his brother and reluctant best man speech writer. Declan Russo, who's been building alongside him since they were apprentices. Jai Nair, Priya's brother, who taught him cricket and hasn't let him forget the first innings. Hamish Sutherland, ten years of friendship and counting. And Marco De Luca, the one who lent him the ferry fare that day.

With the blessing of

Vikram and Lakshmi Nair, and Peter and Sarah Calloway.

GETTING THERE

MONA Ferry from Brooke St Pier

We recommend the ferry. Parking available on site.

006

Your response

We would love to know by 1 August 2026.

007

Things you
might ask

What should I wear?

Something you feel yourself in. The venue is raw concrete and open air — think architectural, not country club. Flat shoes are a good idea for the gallery floors. Layers for the evening river breeze.

Can I bring someone?

Check your invitation. If it names a guest, absolutely. If it's just your name, we are keeping things close. No offence — we just ran out of chairs that overlook the water.

How do I get to MONA?

The MONA Ferry departs from Brooke Street Pier in Hobart's waterfront. It takes about 25 minutes and is genuinely beautiful. We'll arrange return ferries for the evening. If you prefer to drive, there's parking on the museum grounds.

When do you need my answer?

By 1 August 2026 so we can sort numbers with the venue. Earlier is better — Priya's spreadsheet depends on it.

Are children welcome?

We love your kids, but this is an adults-only evening. Think of it as a sanctioned night off. Enjoy it.

Photos during the ceremony?

We'd prefer an unplugged ceremony — phones tucked away, presence over documentation. Our photographer will capture everything. After the vows, go wild.

Where should I stay?

The Henry Jones Art Hotel on the waterfront is five minutes from the ferry pier. MACq 01 Hotel is next door and equally good. Battery Point has excellent Airbnbs if you prefer something with a kitchen and character.
